Well, you may be able to tell if the average 13 year old is putting on a show. But I can assure you I could mask the fact that im male on any of my female alts. It's become more like an art, back in the Dark age of camelot days you could get 100's of gold just because you said, "Please" and /giggle'd

In the end though, isn't it really just what your personal perception is? If you find a nice player, and think they're really a girl, but they're really a boy, what does it matter, considering that they're still a girl...according to you. Gender isn't really a way to classify whether someone's a good player or not, considering it's never something you can truly know in a majority of cases, (RL relationships aside.) and thus, whatever gender you believe they are, will be applied to the notions you already have about genders. If they're a good player, with some female traits (However the hell that works with text.) you'll assume they're female because you think females are nice players, and so on, and thus, you're just perpetuating your own ideas. In the end, you'll know who the good players are, and gender's not going to predetermine that.

The reality is you can never be sure till you speak with the person or see the person for yourself (or call the FBI ^^).
Speaking is dangerous as well, a teen boy can be as squeaky sounding as a teen girl *evil grin*.

I find a lot of teen girls and boys are looking the same sometimes. @_@

Amazed with it sometimes. "Hey, is that a guy?" "No, its Pat."

I never play looking for either sex, you just cant tell on the internet.

In fact i've supprised a rather fair share of people.

"Yea, its easy to tell your a chick"!
"Oh really now"?
"Yeah! all those smilies and stuff, you just sound like a chick"!
"mmm hmm".
"Yea! now i KNOW your a chick".
"How so"?
"You didnt deny it"!
"No, you just didnt ask, you mearly assumed "
"....what"?

Heh, seriosly though, you cant tell, even if you think you can. Who knows who is putting on a show and who isnt. It's just easiest to not try and speculate on it and just play to play, if thier good does it really matter who's behind the monitor? Trying to figure it out can drive you insane.

And as far as insanity goes you only need to know one thing, crazy is optional. Insanity comes with a jacket.

Playing with a competent team member is all that matters. I couldn't care less if they are male or female. The only thing that really bugs me is, "Girls really play this game?" (or a similar question) I've lost count the number of times I've heard that one.

On a side note, it's really funny to watch my husband's female character get hit on, then slowly and painfully break it to the admirerer that she's really a man behind the keyboard.

Why am I suddenly picturing a shower scene a la Crying Game? NOOOoooOOO!!!

The Internet ... the Great Anonymizer ... what does it matter what sex you are as long as you don't go running off and pull a Leroy? Hmmm?
